Vdekja e Leka Zogut: a janë të kompleksuar socialistët?

E di qe ne shqiptaret kemi shume nevoje per  miresi dhe per komente respektuese per familjaret e Lekes dhe ne pergjithesi respekt per kodin e vdekjes, por kur vjen fjala per idiotesine ne mediat shqiptare lidhur me emertimet patetike dhe totalisht skandaloze per kete njeri, nuk mund te rrish pa permendur se Leka zogu ka qene njelloj "imbarracimi" per shumicen prej nesh (po te kujtojme skandalin e marshimin e tij neper Tirane me kobure ne brez dhe me turmat e injoranteve te egersuar qe i vinin nga pas, po tekujtojme se eshte njohur me pare per trafik armesh, pasjen e nje milicie private ne Afriken e jugut.... etj etj), qe me te gjitha gjasat duket se le shume per te deshiruar e qofte ne sensin intelektual qofte edhe ate praktik e politk. Me pretendimin e tij per fronin e paqene kurre te Mbreterise Shqiptare ky imbarracim kalon ne absurd qesharak qe nuk ja vlen te zgjatesh, por per me teper ku individ dhe familje e tij jetojne sot si parazit ne kurrizin e gjithe shqiptareve dhe nese behet fjale per te marre mednimn e shqiptareve ky duhet te ishte e vetmja ceshtje per tu hedhur ne referendum popullor --- A duam ne shqiptaret  te mbajme ne kurriz, mesa duket per gjenerata, nje familje qe me te gjitha gjasat nuk eshte ne gjendje te financoje vetveten????Keshtu do te vepronte  cdo komb i pjekur dhe me principe. A jemi ne shqiptaret te tille???   ---

When the bombs began to fall Zog urged his people to "fight to the last drop of blood to defend our independence"; the royal family, meanwhile, headed for the Greek border. As well as his newborn son, Zog took his six sisters, three nephews and two nieces, along with a 20-strong retinue of courtiers, advisers and bodyguards. The 14-hour journey was a bumpy one, over terrible roads, but eventually the royal party arrived at Salonika, where they were granted temporary refuge in a hospital, and the infant Leka could be properly cared for. His semi-conscious mother had to be stretchered into a hotel.

Both mother and child survived, despite doom-laden reports about their health. As soon as they were recovered the jumpy Greek government urged them to move on.

The family journeyed on to Egypt, then to the south of France. After the Nazi invasion of France in 1940, Zog took his family to Bordeaux to catch one of the last boats bound for Britain. In the rush to escape, some of the royal luggage fell overboard.

They lived, first, at the Ritz and then, in 1941, at Sunninghill near Ascot, and later at Parmoor House in the Chilterns. After the war they lived in Egypt as guests of King Farouk until Farouk himself was overthrown in 1952, when they moved to Paris.

Zogu was educated in Egypt, Switzerland and France and graduated from the military academy at Sandhurst with an erect military bearing and fluent English (with only the hint of an accent). He then studied Economics and Political Science at the Sorbonne.

In 1961, following Zog's death, he was formally proclaimed King of Albania and, at a ceremony in a Parisian hotel, swore the oath of allegiance. It was a businesslike occasion: no women, no throne and no crown. At its conclusion, he returned to his villa in a Paris suburb.

Moving to Spain, he a became commodities broker in Madrid until 1979, but after what was described as an arms cache was found in his home, the government asked him to leave. Zogu and family headed for southern Africa, but during a refuelling stop in Gabon their aircraft was surrounded by local troops, said to have been hired to capture him by the Albanian government. The soldiers backed off when Zogu appeared at the aircraft door armed with a bazooka.

In 1997 Zogu returned for a second time to Albania, following the collapse of government-backed pyramid investment schemes in which many Albanians lost their life savings. With President Sali Berisha under severe pressure, a referendum was held on whether the monarchy should be restored. "My presence seems to ignite the spark," Zogu said, in the run up to the vote. "I just hope I'll work out as a stabilising factor."

In the event, only 30 per cent voted in favour. Brandishing an Uzi submachine gun and a pistol, and clad in camouflage fatigues, Zogu led a crowd of armed protesters outside the main elections building, claiming the results had been manipulated. After a shoot-out with police, in which one protester was killed and several wounded, Zogu fled Albania on a private jet.

A court in Tirana sentenced Zogu in absentia to three years in prison on charges of organising an armed uprising. An appeal court later reduced the charge to possession of illegal firearms.

Albania's president pardoned him in 2002 and the country's parliament approved a resolution supporting his return. Zogu's family was given back some of its old royal properties and granted diplomatic passports. Zogu's son, also named Leka, has since served as an adviser to several Albanian governments.

Zogu finally settled in Albania in 2002, leading a quiet life with his Australian wife and son but never relinquishing his claim to the throne. The royal family's official website listed his interests as "arms, shooting, reading and history".

When he returned to Albania in June 2002, he brought with him 11 cases of automatic weapons, grenades and hunting arms, which the authorities promptly seized. But the weapons were returned to the family six years later after Albania's government deemed them items of cultural heritage.

Leka I Zogu married, in 1975, Susan Cullen-Ward, an Australian teacher, who died in 2004. Their son survives him.
