Qaddafi is out. Who’s next?

by Alfred Kola
Colonel Qaddafi’s regime seems to be living its last moments as the rebel forces marched into the capital Tripoli apparently meeting very little resistance on the way. They arrested his two sons as residents celebrated the end of his four-decade-old rule. In the city’s central square, named The Green Square, the site of many manufactured rallies in support of Colonel Qaddafi, jubilant Libyans tore down posters of him and stomped on them. The leaders of the Rebellion isued a mass text mesagge saying: “We congratulate the Libyan people for the fall of Muammar Qaddafi and call on the Libyan people to go into the street to protect the public property. Long live free Libya.”
The officials of the regime reject these allegations, claiming that the clashes continue and that the regime’s military forces are still maintaining key positions in the city, but sources from NATO and American government say that the regime is over. Although the Colonel and his regime never admitted defeat, his fate was sealed months ago. That is the fate of every bloody dictator who defies the voice of the people.
President Obama called on the Colonel to “reliquesh power once and for all”. He also called on the rebel leaders to protect institutions and pursue the path of democratic reforms and try to avoid casualties.
The fall of Colonel Muammar el-Qaddafi marks a turning point in the Libyan history. It also shows that the time of dictators has come to an end everywhere on the planet. The question is who of the incumbent dictators throughout the world will be next?
